Listen to the Voices of the Fen invites us to actively listen to the voices of the many different species at Wicken Fen. Listen from a new perspective on a guided listening walk, wander at your own pace to explore sound installations, or take part in workshops to creatively respond to the soundscape... all aimed at bringing more attention to the intriguing and captivating soundworlds of Wicken Fen.
Discover the hidden sounds we often don’t notice, from underwater, underground, inside trees and activated by the wind.
Listen to the Voices of the Fen is a project led by artist Kathy Hinde in partnership with Wicken Fen, National Trust and Babylon Arts supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Installations
During summer 2025, from Friday 18 July, World Listening Day, until Sunday 28 September, a sculptural sound trail welcomed audiences into a new way of experiencing Wicken Fen. The trail featured artworks by and collaborations between Kathy Hinde, Oliver Payne, Stevie Wishart, Amy Wyllie and Matthew Olden.
The opening of the sculpture trail was further celebrated on Sunday 20 July with a live performance by workshop participants on hand-made overtone flutes crafted from local willow branches. This was guided by workshop leader and composer Jan Hendrickse and sound artist Kathy Hinde.
